Another beautiful ride in this great section of France. Â Today we did a similar ride to yesterday's, but instead of turning east from the Barrage de Castillon, we went further north on D955 before turning east on N202. Â And my wife's choice of D10 was an inspiration. Â This was a well-paved remote road that was in beautiful forest and countryside and had virtually no traffic. Â We saw only three moving vehicles in the ten to fifteen kilometers that we were on this road: Â a school bus (actually a large van), a small yellow La Poste truck, and one car. Â While on it, we passed the Col de Laval at 1100 meters.
When planning the ride, My wife noticed that the map showed only a short distance on D911 and D2211 for the climb to the 1199 meter high Col du Buis. Â Although this might mean a steeper than normal climb, she went ahead anyway...and we paid for it on the climb. Â If I remember the numbers on the signs correctly, we climbed over 350 meters in less than four kilometers. Â And the road was labeled a 10% climb as well. Â This is a great road for anyone who likes steep climbs.
With the exception of the portions of this ride on D4085, all were perfect low-traffic roads with nice villages, wonderful scenery and vistas. Â Although D4085 is a major road with a high speed limit, it had very limited traffic on it. Â I expect that it would be much worse during the summer tourist season.
