About This Route

My memory is: With my friend John who had five gears on his fancy Raleigh. I had a Dawes Realmrider with one gear. Day 1 - Amble to Carlisle 80 miles. Day 2 - Carlisle to Keswick 36 miles. Day 3 - Keswick to Penrith 24 miles. Day 4 - Penrith to Barnard Castle 50 miles. Day 6 - Barnard Castle to Ferrybridge (A1) 34 miles where a kindly lorry driver gave us a lift to Newcastle where John and I caught a train to Acklington (or Alnmouth). We were 15 years old.
